About Pressed Flower Art
Pressed flower art is the creative use of flowers and leaves as artistic
medium to compose beautiful works of art. Flowers, leaves and plant
materials are dried and preserved by various methods of pressing, later to be used in many
artistic arrangements. The artist uses the pressed plant
materials like an art media
to actually "paint" the picture in her designs. This form of pressed flower art has been
gaining popularity amongst pressed flower artists, and is seen extensively
in the Japanese Oshibana 押し花 works.
Award winning artist, May Long,
uses pressed flowers and leaves as an artistic medium in her pictures to
design unique works of art. Pressed flowers and leaves are intricately
woven into the designs, creating a wonderful visual textures and
dimensions.
May is a self-taught pressed flower artist. Her art can also be seen on the
front and back covers of a beautiful children's poem book. She is also a Founder, Committee Member and
Web Director of the World Wide Pressed Flower Guild.
